Movie Review: Moana 2

Moana 2 is hands down one of my favorite Disney movies. It’s not just a story—it feels like a piece of my own journey, especially as someone who left my home in the Philippines for a new life in Canada.

Let’s start with the introduction of Moana’s sister—can we all agree she was SO adorable? Right from the beginning, the movie pulled me in with its heartwarming family dynamic and the feeling of connection to home. And, of course, Maui is back! The “demigod of the wind and sea” is just as hilarious and lovable as ever. His character always brings that spark of humor, but also teaches us about believing in ourselves.

The plot hit me on such a personal level. Moana gets this incredible vision from her ancestors, urging her to bring people together across the ocean. It reminded me of the courage our ancestors had when they navigated vast seas, relying only on the stars, wind, and their instincts. Watching this reminded me of the strength and ingenuity of my own Filipino heritage.

What really got me was the way the movie showed the ocean as more than just water—it’s a symbol of hope, a way to connect people despite the distance. This really struck a chord with me because it mirrors my own life. Like Moana, I had to leave my family and the only home I knew for the unknown, hoping for a better future. It wasn’t easy, and sometimes it still isn’t. But the movie made me reflect on how every step I’ve taken has made me stronger and more connected to my dreams and my roots.

Moana’s journey felt like my own in so many ways. Her bravery, her love for her family, and her determination to create a better future inspired me to think about the choices I’ve made. It reminded me that even when things are tough, the bonds we share and the courage we summon can carry us through.

If you’ve ever left home for a bigger dream or wondered what it takes to bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be, Moana 2 will speak to you. It’s not just a story—it’s a reminder that we all have the power to be the hero of our own lives.

This movie has solidified Moana as my all-time favorite Disney character. She’s a symbol of everything I aspire to be: brave, hopeful, and connected to her roots, no matter how far the journey takes her.
